Case Studies - The Konti-Skan HVDC Scheme
Konti-Skan is the name of two high-voltage direct-current transmission lines between Denmark and Sweden. The project was originally designed to provide a peak power reserve for both countries, and supply energy during emergency situations to support their AC systems in case of network disturbances.

Due to the very high voltages and remote location of the project, normal broadband communications are not feasible. Tariam was requested to provide broadband communications by satellite, including IPSec VPN connectivity, to enable contractors using the site to work effectively. Tariam designed, installed and maintains the connection that backhauls the network in the site office on the Gothenburg end of the link. Work to install the VSAT on the site was completed on time in an environment with complex Health and Safety issues.
