FleetBroadband
Communications on commercial and leisure vessels has been hampered up until now by the lack of availability of a true broadband product that worked at sea. Most existing marine satellite systems are heavy, expensive and offer poor data rates.

The desire to connect to advanced online business support systems for things like fast provisioning, as well as obvious tasks like obtaining real time weather and chart updates, has driven the need for a true marine broadband communications system for today’s world.
Tariam’s new FleetBroadband service brings marine communications into the 21st century.
FleetBroadband takes your vessel, large or small, into the broadband IP era, whilst still supporting ISDN, as well as providing fax and SMS. Based on 3G standards it provides constant, simultaneous access to voice and data.
There’s a FleetBroadband overview for you in our downloads library.
Operational systems can run online in the background and you can still access email and make phone calls all via a single terminal. Above Deck Units are extremely small and light for their performance and the equipment and connectivity pricing means that for the first time broadband communications at sea are open to the leisure sailor.
Standard capabilities include:-
- Up to 432 kbps synchronous over a shared channel for internet and intranet access
- Simultaneous voice and data via the same terminal
- Streaming IP guaranteed data rates on demand up to 256 kbps
- Supports ISDN at 64 kbps for legacy applications
- Sends and receives text messages (SMS)
- Two types of terminal are available
FB250 offers standard IP up to 284 kbps and streaming up to 128 kbps with antenna size of 25 cm.
FB250 offers standard IP up to 432 kbps and streaming up to 256 kbps with antenna size of 50 cm.
Terminals have been specifically designed for the marine environment and support voice, fax and SMS.
Coverage is now global (apart from extreme polar regions). FleetBroadband is made available utilising Inmarsat’s I-4 satellite constellation. Inmarsat has an unrivalled history in providing robust and reliable marine communications.
